KALAS Sign To TEE PEE RECORDS
February 20, 2006Oakland, California-based hard music quintet KALAS have signed to New York City's Tee Pee Records. The group, whose roster reads like a directory of seminal San Francisco Bay Area bands that have made their distinct mark over the past decade, will unveil their self titled full length debut on April 19.
KALAS (pronounced: KAH-LAAS) features front man and legendary hard rock icon Matt Pike (SLEEP, HIGH ON FIRE) on vocals, Andy Branton (ECONOCHRIST, GRIMPLE, SAMIAM) and Paul Kott (CRUEVO, HIGH TONE SON OF A BITCH) on guitars, Scott Plumb (CRUEVO) on drums and bassist Brad Reynolds. Recorded at Nu Tone Studios (IGGY POP, GREEN DAY, DILLINGER FOUR) in January, 2006, "Kalas" molds the minor key, melodic, thick and heavy riffs of '90s-era Oakland crust into a new, angular rock mutation.
Given the chance to crawl out from behind the guitar and focus solely on vocals, Matt Pike more than steps up to the plate, delivering his most deviceful and inspired vocals to date. The music of KALAS is a constant interplay of structure and dynamic as layers of thunder and harmony wrap both crushing groove and IRON MAIDEN / THIN LIZZY-inspired head banging bliss.
